About Us
White Wings Rescue is dedicated to several vital missions. Primarily, we focus on controlling the feral and stray cat population by implementing trap/release, spay/neuter, and adoption programs.
The organization provides temporary housing for animals in its care, ensuring they receive necessary medical assistance until they can be placed in loving homes.
My Journey from Animal Lover to Cat Advocate
I have always been an animal lover. As a child, my particular passion was horses, but I loved all animals and often brought home various creatures.
I helped with TNR and fostering in Arizona and continued this work in Washington State after moving there. I remember rescuing kittens scavenging for food in a garbage can near a busy intersection and taking them to a shelter.
Over the years, it became clear that there is often indifference or outright hostility towards feral and stray cats, as if they created the overpopulation problem themselves. Many kittens born to stray and feral mothers do not reach six months of age due to the harsh struggle for survival. This drives me to end their suffering as much as possible.
I posted on the Montana Cat Network on Facebook, and many people reached out for help. Previously, there had been no resources for affordable spaying/neutering or trapping of feral cats.
A Mission to End Suffering and Promote Compassion
I do this because I’ve seen the suffering and hatred firsthand. It’s important to change how cats are viewed. They are not meant to live like wild animals, nor are they vermin to be shot on sight.
With perseverance, we are gaining ground. Our mission is to involve the community in every aspect to see a drastic change in this issue. The community has been very supportive and thankful for our efforts, and we are grateful for them as well.
Advocating for Change: White Wings Rescue's Mission to Alleviate Cat Overpopulation and Promote Responsible Pet Ownership
We aim to reduce euthanasia rates by advocating for spaying, neutering, and adoption while educating the public on humane treatment of animals. Collaborating with various animal welfare organizations and governmental agencies, White Wings Rescue strives to alleviate pet overpopulation and promote responsible pet ownership.
Although currently reliant on board funding and private donations, the organization is in the process of applying for grants to expand our rescue efforts!
Our Mission Statement
White Wings Rescue is formed and organized to –
- Promote and facilitate the spay and neuter of feral and stray cats through a trap/release, spay/neuter and adoption program
- Provide animals in our care with temporary housing, in foster homes or other suitable venues, until such time they can be placed in adoptive homes
- Reduce the number of animals euthanized in our community by reducing the population through spay and neuter programs
- Provide medical assistance for animals in our care
- Educate the public in areas of humane treatment of animals
- Educate the community on the importance of spaying and neutering and pet adoption to help eliminate the need to euthanize animals due to the lack of space in existing shelters and humane societies
- Work with humane societies, other animal rescue groups, the public and governmental agencies to offer relief from pet overpopulation
Actual Activities are as stated above.
Sources of income at this time are board funded as well as small, private donations.
Honoring Our Fosters: The Heart and Soul of Our Rescue
Without our fosters, my life would be so much more difficult at the rescue, many kittens would have to be turned away and we would not be able to take some of the kittens that we have been able to help.
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to these ladies who selflessly give up sleep, donate their time and expertise to bottle feed and nurture littles and socializing feral kittens so they have a better chance at a good life. They are a VERY important and valued part of this rescue, one without which it would not be as successful and effective as it is if they weren’t involved.
Our Fosters
Caroline socializes the kittens and turn them from little feral hellions to sweet, loving babies who understand a kind hand and love. She provides transport to and from the clinic when needed.
Crystal was an army vet and both socializes, bottle feeds and cares for our tougher, more at-risk kittens.
Maranda has fostered for many years. She cares for orphan kittens needing bottle fed as well as our kittens that arrive sick and need extra hands-on monitoring. Like Crystal, she is very experienced at critical care that I am so happy to have a part of White Wings Rescue.
Angela is our newest foster that is bottle feeding orphan and abandoned kittens that need extra care and attention. We are happy she joined us.
I am beyond grateful for the hearts you have and the dedication to so many hours of making sure the kittens have the best chance possible to survive and thrive. “Thank you” just doesn’t seem like enough.
I know how much compassion you have, your dedication and integrity. I’m honored to have each of you a part of what we do and as friends as well. I hope each and every one of you are here for a long, long time because you are the best of the best.
